Family policies
What parents and adult students ask before a first class.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
Watching class and sash tests
Parents are welcome on the bench by the door and can watch any class. Adults who are not training are welcome too. During a sash test we ask everyone to stay quiet and keep flash photography off.
What to wear and bring
A plain t-shirt and loose pants are fine for a first class. Take off jewelry, tie long hair back, keep nails short and leave shoes off the floor. A uniform and a first sash come when you join, and we explain how at your first class.
When to stay home
If you or your child has a fever, a cough or anything that could spread on a shared floor, stay home and message us. A missed class can be made up. Please don't send health details through the website.
Drop-off and pickup
Students under 12 sign in at the front desk and wait inside until a parent or a named adult arrives. Teens may walk or ride home only when a parent has told us so in writing.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close for holidays and for winter storms. We post closures on the booking page and text everyone on the class list that morning.
Leaving the school
Tell us in writing and give 30 days' notice. Billing stops when the notice ends. The same words are on the how tuition works page.
Phones and filming
Phones stay on silent in the school. Filming in class needs the teacher's say-so, and we ask that no one films other families' children.

Safety routines
Signing in and collecting
Everyone signs in at the front desk. Students under 12 stay inside until a parent or a named adult collects them.
Floor and weapons rules
Shoes stay off the floor. Practice staffs come out only in the forms and staff class, with a teacher in the room, and go back on the rack after every class.
Partner work
Partner drills are slow and controlled. Students at different sashes are matched by the teacher, and a tap or the word stop ends a drill at once.
Juniors and teens
A teacher stays in view of the bench in every junior and teen class, so a parent can see the floor from the door.
Class size
Classes are up to 14 students.
